“We all want to be a little glamorous, a little playful and a little mischievous at times.” -Jason Wu
Gowns, bubbles and gal pals surrounded this year’s 2018 Nashville Symphony Fashion Show at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. I had the privilege of attending with many of Nashville’s elite. This year’s featured designer was none other than the extremely talented Mr. Jason Wu accompanied by musical guest and Grammy Award Winning Little Big Town. Proceeds from this highly anticipated evening supported the symphony’s artistic, educational and community programs that reach tens of thousands of children and adults, all sharing their devoted love for the arts.
The night began on a beautifully manicured courtyard patio strung with hundreds of lights and crowded with all of Nashville’s most fashionable: all dressed to impress. Friends sipped on cocktails and nibbled on small bites all in anticipation of being among the first to critique Wu’s Fall 2018 collection. The collection, full of bold and stormy jewel tones, slinky chiffons and silks, and beaded crystals that would make your grandmother melt, truly embodied Wu’s diverseness as a designer. My personal favs were those rich tones of emerald greens and deep ocean blues, the colors themselves almost dancing across the stage. From his plaid sweaters to tulle ballgowns, Wu has shown his prodigious capabilities to dress a woman for any occasion. His acclaimed designs are both classically chic and timeless. Wu, who is a mere 35 has accomplished more in his young life than most could dream of. He first got his start designing and sewing doll clothing as a child, then later studied sculpture and design across the world and the rest was history.
JASON WU’S COLLECTION AT THE NASHVILLE SYMPHONY FASHION SHOW:
The night continued with a classically trained performance by two of Nashville’s astounding local youth talent. The organization truly offers a magnitude of endless opportunities for our youth. After the show, all of Wu’s designs could be purchased at Gus Mayer the following day where both the designer and boutique generously agreed to donate 20% of sales back to the symphony.
One of my favorite parts of the entire evening was witnessing the dynamically talented foursome Little Big Town bring down the house. My only complaint was that they didn’t sing a few more songs! In true fashionista style, we topped the evening off by attending Club Wu on the top floor of the Symphony, full of swanky 20 somethings, photo booths, champs, and booshie decor, it was a night to remember! Needless to say, we’ll be sure to be back next year.
The Nashville Symphony Fashion show was definitely a night for the books, I revel in any and all opportunities to commemorate my love language fashion. In all, I felt a few of the designs were a bit safe and not quite as innovative as I had hoped for, but Wu certainly delivered a beautiful portrayal of clothing and I’m sure there is much more to come from him in the near future.
“Being feminine in the way you dress doesn’t have to compromise who you are as a woman or your career.” Jason Wu
